I’m Learning to Be an Entrepreneur

by Kevin Elliott

I’m figuring out how to be an entrepreneur.

I bought my first business when I was 25 and groped my way through. After five years, it failed catastrophically. We were bankrupt.

I started another business and it lasted 10 years. We beat the odds but that business only ever paid our bills. I didn’t know how to scale.

Today, Wewa Films is doing great. My other business Redfish Film Fest is doing great. But I started those businesses when I was 45 and 48 respectively, after years of frustration and shame.

I am 49 as of this writing and am just now feeling the flow of competence and confidence. I have successful entrepreneur friends and partners who help, support, and advise me. It is working but I still have a long way to go.

I write this because there is too much shame attached to failure and not figuring things out in your 20s. Especially with us business types.

If you’re reading this and have a business burning inside you, I’m cheering for you. I’m up in the stands, waiving a towel over my head, cheering you on.

Even if you need a walker to get over the finish line.
